Family Road Trip Highlights And Low Points

Tonight is our last night in the beach house here in Palm Coast, Florida. Tomorrow we will be embarking on our journey back to Vermont. So far, the trip has been fun. It has been tons of fun at times, and loads of stress at others. Of course, these things are par for the course when you take a family road trip. There have been some wonderful moments during this vacation. Yesterday was very special, as it was my sister’s wedding day. The boys both had a good day behavior – wise and things went smoothly. From spending time with … Continue reading

Keep Calm And Potty On

After a few weeks of relatively smooth sailing as far as potty learning is concerned, Dylan has started to regress. I think that this started some time yesterday, and there were quite a few accidents today. As tempting as it was to tell him that little boys who treat their underwear like diapers will wear diapers, I resisted. Instead, I decided that I would do some research on potty learning regression. The first thing that I learned about regression is that it is quite common. That does not take the frustration away, but it reassures me that this is not … Continue reading

Courageous Mothers

As Mothers, we don’t often see ourselves as warriors, or courageous. We sometimes feel like we are barely scraping by. Inadequate. But, we are so much more than that. Our work as mothers is divine, and one of the most important works that God has entrusted to Man. To raise His children. Teach them. Love them. I heard President Monson share a quote that lifted me up today. It says, “Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, ‘I’ll try again tomorrow’”. This is a quote from Mary Anne Radmacher. Yesterday, I had a … Continue reading

Another Thing for Parents to Worry About

I worked in TV news for nearly 15 years and would roll my eyes whenever my photographer and I squeezed our way through a crowd to cover a major event and heard people shout: “I don’t watch the news!” C’mon, who doesn’t watch the news? Then, I gave birth and I figured out there really are people who avoid turning on the evening news. Parents. I now see why some parents don’t watch the news. They’re trying to preserve their sanity. With so much to worry about on a daily basis in their own little worlds, why fan the flames … Continue reading

Another Step Towards Opening Your Home Based Business

After thinking a bit about the suggestions that I wrote about yesterday, I realized that that I should talk a little bit about the importance of doing these smaller steps close enough together so that you can build momentum that will carry you through those crazy initial days, weeks, and months after you are open for business. I would suggest that you complete one of the steps each day, or every other day. Of course, you may need to tailor that suggestion a little to your schedule but it is important that you not spread them out too much because … Continue reading

Yesterday, Tomorrow, and The Other Day

One thing that is so fun about having a child this age is their perception of time. They don’t really have much perception of time at all! They hear phrases from us like, “give me two minutes” or “Just a minute” and they don’t really know what that means. Trying to explain to your preschooler about an event in the future is equally as hard. We are taking a trip next week, and I’ve been trying to explain to my daughter that the trip is still a week away. Every time we get in the car, she asks me if … Continue reading

Meal Planning: Ham Today, Chicken Tomorrow

Actually the title of this post is a little deceiving. It actually should read something along the lines Ham yesterday and Chicken today. As I wrote in previous posts, I am making a concerted effort to cut those coupons and match up those sales items, freezer cooking and meal planning to reduce our grocery budget. So far, it has been so good. We have gone from a food expense of about $150 a week to one of about $60 a week, which is more than half off. Plus, during this time we have actually cut down on eating out and … Continue reading

Feeling Guilty About Thanksgiving? Seven Tips to Help Curb Holiday Overeating!

If you celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday, I hope you had a lovely day full of good food and great family and friends. I also hope you have no regrets about your eating behaviors. Thanksgiving and other holidays tend to encourage bad habits. The meals are full of “special” foods we don’t get on a regular basis, so there can be a feeling that you NEED to overindulge because you’re not going to see it again for another year. Plus, there’s just SO MANY good foods to sample — you don’t want to insult the chefs by not filling your plate, right? … Continue reading

Balfour Remains Behind Bars and Britney’s Son Remains Hospitalized

The main suspect in the brutal murders of Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and young nephew, will remain behind bars until December, according to new reports. William Balfour, the man police are calling a “person of interest” in the slayings of 57-year-old Darnell Donerson, 29-year-old Jason Hudson and 7-year-old Julian King, could have walked out of jail a free man today, but the Illinois Prisoner Review Board denied him the chance. According to news reports, Balfour’s hearing ended this morning with a decision that there is probable cause to believe that he violated parole and should remain behind bars. Balfour … Continue reading

Hollywood Baby Boom—Ricky’s Twins and Matt’s New Daughter

Ricky Martin really is “Livin’ La Vida Loca” now that he is the single parent of twin boys. Who knew his hit song would be so prophetic. The 36-year-old singer apparently got tired of waiting for the perfect partner and decided to hire a surrogate to carry his new twin sons. In a statement released to the public yesterday Martin’s rep confirmed that the children (whose names have not been released) were delivered via gestational surrogacy, and are “healthy and already under Ricky’s full-time care.” The statement also revealed that the actor-musician will spend the rest of the year in … Continue reading
