When Being Sick Is Not An Option

What do you dread more?  Dealing with a sick kid or running a household while running a fever and to the toilet every few minutes? When my daughter was an infant she got violently ill.  In a moment of utter fatigue and desperation, I tried bargaining with her doctor.  I offered him all of my appendages in exchange for a cure for my child.  I wanted to alleviate her pain at any cost, even if it meant dismembering my own body. It’s a scenario most parents can relate to; we’d rather be the ones suffering than see our children in … Continue reading

Some Days It’s Just Hard

I love being a mom. It truly is one of the greatest joys in my life. Watching my daughter grow into the person she will become and knowing I had something to do with that, makes my heart happy. That’s not to say it is the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I thought parenting was difficult when I was married but it’s much harder as a single mom. For me, the toughest thing is not having that sounding board to bounce ideas off and get advice from. We all want to do what’s best for our child but sometimes it’s … Continue reading

Staying Healthy During the Holidays

Tis the season, for coughing, sneezing, runny noses, tummy aches and any other kind of germ your kids can drag home. It’s no fun to be sick for the holidays but in my house it seems like someone always is. Maybe it’s because we are spending more time in crowded shopping centers and malls, maybe it’s because we are exposed to more germs at all the holiday parties we attend or maybe germs just like us better during the holidays. Whatever the reason, we need to do what we can to fend off illness so everyone can enjoy the holidays. … Continue reading

Too Much Mom

Mothers are the heart and soul of the family unit. However, in many clans the ties between mother and child go beyond binding and bleed into the gagging category. Such is the case with an Italian mother and son who have recently been generating a ton of media coverage. According to reports, 39-year-old Stefano fell in love with gorgeous Marianna. The two married in a lavish church ceremony in December, but now, just four short weeks later, Marianna has filed for divorce. The reason: Stefano’s attachment to his mom. Court documents state that Marianna wants out of the marriage because … Continue reading

Mom Robs Bank for Kids

Well, something like that. How many times have you considered robbing a bank in order to score some fast cash? Most of us joke about committing the federal offense at some time or another, especially during tough economic times. Of course, a joke is just that; something to laugh about. I’m sure most people don’t actually make serious plans to carry out the risky and illegal job. That goes double for parents. After all, parents are supposed to be role models for their kids and what kind of example are you setting if you are rotting in a jail cell … Continue reading

Homeschooling During Dark Days

Homeschooling is a joy for many. Homeschooling moms have the privilege of guiding their child’s education on a daily basis through real life experiences and handpicked curriculum. Your child gets a full view of life up close and personal with no distractions and without the benefit of rosy colored glasses. So when those real life experiences involve divorce, illness, death, financial woes, or the not so somber events such as a new addition in the family or minor injury, how will you homeschool? To each a dark season will come regardless of your educational choice for your children. Often homeschoolers … Continue reading

A Sick Day for Mom or Dad

When you are home with a small child, a sick day is no fun. Now, I’m not talking about your child getting sick. Of course that’s no fun, but you can deal with it, right? You’ll soldier on through the colds and the flu and the general I-don’t-feel-wells. However, when it’s you who doesn’t feel well, woe betide us all. I’ve been having that sort of a day the past few days. Since I have a chronic illness and don’t feel well a lot of the time anyway, actually being sick makes things many times worse (insert sympathy here). What … Continue reading

The Daycare: One Month

We’ve had our son in daycare for a month now and I must admit things have been much better than we could have imagined. Our fears of leaving the care of our son in someone else’s hands has not completely gone away but we are quite comfortable and confident in the staff at our daycare (even if we still think we’d be doing a better job ourselves). That said, the experience has been a positive one for both our son and his parents. This marks the one month reflection of a difficult decision. One month ago we were worried about … Continue reading

The Daycare & The Cold

Less than 1 week into Daycare and my son is already sick. I suppose this should be a common enough occurrence but it certainly doesn’t make Mom & Dad feel any better about putting our child into daycare. Is the environment clean? As far as I know. Is the staff trained? Yes. Are they kind and caring? They certainly seem to be. So what is the problem? I’m really not sure. Perhaps it is the other kids. My son has been super healthy since his birth… so hearing him snore because his sinuses are clogged is not a pretty sight … Continue reading

Bad Dads Strike Again: Father Poisons Kids for Cash

Here’s another one for you guys. And by guys I mean gals. And by gals I mean moms. Outraged moms let their fury fly via comments left on my previous blogs detailing the sick, twisted and demented doings of bad dads from coast-to-coast. However, before I share this latest loser with the group I should note that I am by no means a dad basher by trade. It’s just that these guys make it so easy. Their reprehensible actions are constantly making headlines, and frankly some of what they do is simply too outrageous not to address. In all fairness, … Continue reading
